The probabilistic method is a powerful tool in graph theory, combinatorics, and theoretical computer science. It allows one to prove the existence of objects with certain properties (e.g., colorings) by showing that an appropriately defined random object has positive probability of having those properties. Probabilistic Expert Systems emphasizes the basic computational principles that make probabilistic reasoning feasible in expert systems. The key to computation in these systems is the modularity of the probabilistic model. Shafer describes and compares the principal architectures for exploiting this modularity in the computation of prior and posterior probabilities.

Topics in Applied Mathematics and Nonlinear Waves by Per Kristen Jakobsen - , The selection of topics in this text has formed the core of a one semester course in applied mathematics at the Arctic University of Norway. The class has, during its existence, drawn participants from both applied mathematics and physics.

Statistical and Probabilistic Methods in Actuarial Science covers many of the diverse methods in applied probability and statistics for students aspiring to careers in insurance, actuarial science, and finance. The book builds on students’ existing knowledge of probability. Get this from a library! Probabilistic methods in applied mathematics. Vol. [A T Bharucha-Reid].

Approximation theory-on the borderline between pure and applied mathematics- has always supplied some of the most innovative ideas, computational methods, and original approaches to many types of problems. The f. The Probabilistic Method, Fourth Edition is an ideal textbook for upper-undergraduate and graduate-level students majoring in mathematics, computer science, operations research, and statistics.

The Fourth Edition is also an excellent reference for researchers and combinatorists who use probabilistic methods, discrete mathematics, and number theory. Applied Probability presents a unique blend of theory and applications, with special emphasis on mathematical modeling, computational techniques, and examples from the biological sciences.

This is regarded as a very powerful tool by the researchers working on the theory of differential equations. However, as the topic demands expertise on both PDE and probability theory, an initiative to teach the topic as a structured course is vastly absent globally, including in India.Source: Zentralblatt MATH ' this book offers a very good introduction to randomised algorithms and probabilistic analysis, both for the lecturer and independent reader alike.
